All Canon compact cameras should accept any SD memory cards. However, you shouldn't buy a basic, slow and standard speed memory card. Make sure it's a Class 6 card at the very least.

For the newer models of Canon compacts I would recommend the very popular and reliable, Sandisk Extreme III SD cards.

They're ultra fast (maybe overkill for general camera use) but, great for continuous shooting and recording movies.

This depends. For the point and shoot cameras yes. As someone else said check the write speed of the card.

The Rebel XT, XTi, 40D, 30D, and 20D all take compact flash cards.
